Abstract
The article presents a method of identifying the causes of defects of the of man-made objects metallic shell. The initial data of the method are the results of inspections, information of a remote monitoring and control system, as well as the construction, executive and operational documentation. Intellectual support of the method consists of the classification of controlled and output parameters, sets of rules generated for each type of defects and knowledge base that allows to determine their causes.
